Devils spring sports round-up


Baseball
On April 1 the Devils beat Manhattanville College, 14-7. They followed that game the next day by trouncing Delaware Valley College, 13-2. On April 3, the Devils defeated Manhattanville again, this time in a double header, winning both games by the scores of 8-6 and 7-5. The Devils continued their winning streak by crushing Maritime College, 14-1, on April 6. On April 7, the Devils beat Ramapo College, 10-5. On April 9, the Devils extended their winning streak to 11 with a 6-1 victory over Misericordia University. On April 10, the winning streak ended with a 5-2 loss to Misericordia, but the Devils bounced back winning, the second game 6-3.

Golf
On April 1, the Devils finished in 13th place out of 19 teams at the Moravian Tournament. On April 5, the Devils defeated King’s College, 329-343, then later that day they lost to the University of Scranton, 316-329. On April 7, the Devils played Scranton again, this time beating them, 337-359, and they followed that up with a 337-363 victory over Wilkes University.

Softball
On April 2 the Devils split a double header against Manhattanville, losing the first game 5-2 and winning the second 3-1. They also split a double header against Rutgers-Newark on April 8, losing the first, 10-0, and winning the second, 7-2. On April 10, the Devils dropped both games of their double header against Misericordia, losing 7-1 and 7-5.

Men’s Lacrosse
On April 1, the Devils cruised past Alvernia University, 12-5. The Devils then beat up on Misericordia, 13-4, on April 6. On April 10, they won a close game, 9-8, in double overtime against Lycoming College.

Women’s Lacrosse
The Devils lost, 20-10, to The College of New Jersey on April 1. On April 6, they bounced back by crushing Misericordia, 18-4, and on April 8 they earned another big win, defeating Alvernia University, 24-16. On April 10, the Devils won a close game against Lycoming, 8-7.

Men’s Tennis
The Devils lost to Manhattanville, 9-0, on April 1. On April 7, they easily handled Rutgers-Newark, winning 8-1. On April 9, the Devils lost, 9-0, to the College of Staten Island. The Devils then lost to Eastern University, 7-2, on April 10.

FDU Devils spring sports round-up


Golf
On March 26, the Devils finished second out of four teams with a score of 337, 10 shots behind Scranton, at the Stevens Invitational. Senior Dennis Kimble shot a team low of 81, while senior Conor Walsh shot an 83 and senior Nick Lambert shot an 85.

Men’s Lacrosse
On March 17, the Devils traveled to San Diego to defeat Ithaca College 12-7. Freshman attack Brian Gill led the Devils with four goals and two assists. The Devils lost to Manhattanville College, 11-7, on March 23. On March 27, the Devils defeated DeSales University, 9-8, in overtime on a game-winning goal by senior attack Kevin Shadiack.

Women’s Lacrosse
The Devils have won five games in a row, first beating Montclair State University, 9-8, on March 10. On March 16, they defeated Savannah College of Art & Design, 18-7. The Devils cruised past Wilkes University with a 12-1 victory on March 22. On March 24, the Devils easily handled Manhattanville College, 14-4, and on March 27, the Devils again won by double digits beating Arcadia University, 16-3.

Men’s Tennis
On March 13, the Devils started their Spring Trip in Hilton Head, S.C., with a 9-0 win over Young Harris College. On March 14, they lost, 8-1, to Frostburg State University. The Devils lost to Mississippi College, 9-0, on March 15. Two days later, they lost 8-0 to Concordia University. The Devils finished their Spring Trip on March 18 losing two matches, first losing 9-0 to St. Norbert College then losing 9-0 to the University of Scranton.

Baseball
On March 9, the Devils defeated William Paterson University, 13-8, in eight innings. On March 13, the Devils started their Florida Spring Trip off with a 7-4 loss to Albion College. They then went on to win the rest of the five games on the Spring Trip. The Devils played a double header at Delaware Valley College, losing one and winning the other. On March 23, the Devils lost to Kean University, 11-2. The Devils beat Wilkes University, 3-2, on March 26. They then played Wilkes University again winning both games of a double header. The Devils crushed The City College of New York, 22-3.

Softball
The Devils started their Florida Spring Trip with a 10-8 loss to Wartburg College and followed it with a 7-5 loss to Bobson College later that day. On March 14, they lost, 1-0, to SUNY Plattsburgh and then lost again, 12-5, to Westfield State College. The Devils got two wins on March 16, first defeating Western New England College, then Franciscan College. On March 17, the Devils lost, 5-2, to New England College and then lost, 6-3, against Bowdoin College. The Devils lost to SUNY Geneseo and were also beaten by Keene State on March 19. The Devils ended their Florida Spring Trip on March 20 by splitting their games, first losing, 7-1, to Wisconsin-Whitewater then beating Carleton College, 5-1. On March 24, the Devils beat Stevens Institute of Technology in both games of a double header in their first games back from Florida. On March 27, the Devils lost both games in a double header against Wilkes University. On March 28, the Devils split their double header against Delaware Valley College, losing the first game and winning the second.

The Devils’ fall sports round-up


Men’s Basketball
The Devils lost to William Paterson University 87-60 on Nov. 16. On Nov. 18, they lost 77-72 in overtime to Drew University. On Nov. 20, they were beaten by Elon University, 102-68. They lost to Stevens Institute of Technology, 78-62, on Nov. 24. The Devils lost again by one in a 73-72 defeat against Delaware Valley College on Dec. 2 and on Dec. 5 they lost to Wilkes University, 75-62.

Women’s Basketball

On Nov. 15, the Devils beat Medgar Evers College, 68-43. On Nov. 16, they lost 50-45 to Rutgers-Newark. The Devils lost to Drew University on Nov. 18, 51-46. On Nov. 21, they lost 80-37 to Amherst College. On Nov. 22, the Devils beat the College of Staten Island, 90-89, in double overtime. They followed that up with another win over New Jersey City University, 69-64, on Nov. 24. On Nov. 29 they lost to William Paterson University, 79-54. They beat Delaware Valley College 66-61 on Dec. 2 and then defeated Wilkes University, 54-45, on Dec. 4.  

Swimming
On Nov. 14, both the men’s and women’s teams lost to Widener University, with the men losing 135-43 and the women losing 124-72. On Nov. 21, both teams lost again to Elizabethtown College, with the men’s team losing 82-79 and the women losing 123-73.  

Football
The Devils lost their last game of the season, 28-21, to Lycoming College on Nov. 14.

Men’s Soccer
On Oct. 13, the Devils lost to Manhattanville College 3-0. They lost 3-1 on Oct. 17 to DeSales University. On Oct. 21 the Devils beat Delaware Valley College 4-1, followed by a 2-0 loss to King’s College on Oct. 24

Women’s Soccer
The Devils lost 2-1 to Manhattanville College on Oct. 14. They defeated DeSales University 5-1 on Oct. 17, followed by a 4-0 win over Delaware Valley College on Oct. 21. The Devils won their third straight game by beating King’s College 6-0 on Oct. 24

Cross Country
On Oct. 24, the men’s cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams and the women finished fifth out of 11 teams at the St. Joseph’s (L.I.) Invitational.

Field Hockey
The Devils lost 5-0 to Wilkes University on Oct. 13. On Oct. 19 they lost 2-1 to Delaware Valley College. On Oct. 21 they lost 2-0 to Eastern University, but bounced back with a 2-1 overtime win against DeSales University on Oct. 24.

Volleyball
On Oct. 14, the Devils lost 3-0 to DeSales University. On Oct. 16 they played in the Messiah Tri-Match, first defeating Messiah College 3-2 then losing 3-1 to Penn State Altoona. On Oct. 22 they beat King’s College 3-0.

Football
On Oct. 17, the Devils lost 40-14 against Delaware Valley College. On Oct. 24 they lost to Wilkes University 7-6.

Women’s Tennis
On Oct. 21, the Devils lost 9-0 to Kean University. On Oct. 22, they lost 7-2 against Wilkes University.

Swimming
The Devils had their first match of the season, hosting University of Scranton and Cabrini College. Both the men’s and women’s teams lost their matches. The men lost 67-27 to the University of Scranton and 49-27 to Cabrini College. The women lost to the University of Scranton 65-30 and 70-25 to Cabrini College.

The Devils’ fall sports round-up


Men’s Soccer
On Sept. 30 the Devils lost 2-0 to Gwynedd-Mercy College. They began conference play with a 1-0 loss to Wilkes University on Oct. 3. On Oct. 5 the Devils dropped another close game to Drew University by the score of 1-0 and on Oct. 10 they played to a 0-0 tie after double overtime against Misericordia University.

Women’s Soccer
The Devils lost 2-1 against Widener on Sept. 30. They opened up conference play, against Wilkes University, with a 2-2 tie after double overtime on Oct. 3. On Oct. 6 the Devils lost 4-2 to New Jersey City University and then lost 5-4 against Misericordia University on Oct. 10.

Football
On Oct. 2 the Devils lost their first conference game to Widener University 41-14. They played and lost their second conference game on Oct. 10 to Delaware Valley College 41-17.

Cross Country
On Oct. 10 the men’s team finished 24th out of 27 teams and the women’s team finished 20th out of 24 teams.

Field Hockey
On Sept. 28 the Devils beat Moravian College 1-0. On Oct. 1 they lost to Lebanon Valley College 9-1, but bounced back with a 2-1 win over Vassar College on Oct. 3. On Oct. 6 the Devils lost to Ramapo College 4-1. On Oct.10 they beat Misericordia University 3-2 in a shootout.

Volleyball
The Devils lost to Eastern University 3-0 on Sept. 30. On Oct. 6 they defeated Delaware Valley College 3-0. On Oct. 9 the Devils started playing in the Gallaudet Tournament and lost both matches, dropping the first to McDaniel College and the second game to the University of Dallas. On Oct. 10 they lost the last two matches of the tournament, first 3-0 to Gallaudet University, then 3-2 to the Catholic University of America.

Women’s Tennis
On Sept. 30 the Devils defeated St. Elizabeth 7-2. On Oct. 7 they lost to King’s College 8-1. They also lost 8-1 to Eastern University on Oct. 9.

Fall sports round-up for Devils


Men’s Soccer
On Sept. 17 the Devils defeated Brooklyn, 6-1, with freshman Joshua Corpuz leading the way with two goals and two assists.  The Devils then won a close game against Hunter, 1-0, on Sept. 19. They followed that up with their fifth straight win, a 3-1 victory over Johnson & Wales.

Women’s Soccer
The Devils came away with a 2-1 victory over Kean University on Sept. 16. On Sept. 19, they defeated St. Joseph’s College, 2-1, in double overtime. On Sept. 24, the Devils shutout The College of Staten Island, with a 4-0 victory and then lost 0-2 to Marywood University on Sept 27.

Field Hockey
On Sept. 15, the Devils lost 1-2 to William Paterson University and then lost to The College of New Jersey, 0-6, on Sept. 19. On Sept. 23, they lost 1-2 to Stevens Institute of Technology. On Sept. 26, the Devils lost 2-4 to King’s College.

Cross Country
On Sept. 25, the men’s team finished eighth out of 10 teams and the women’s team finished third out of eight teams during the Stevens Invitational.

Volleyball
On Sept. 16, the Devils defeated Wilkes University, 3-1. They then swept the Devils Quad tournament, winning three games on Sept. 19. They first beat Rutgers-Camden, 3-0, then earned a 3-1 victory over Ramapo College and defeated Cedar Crest College, 3-0, in the third game of the day. On Sept. 22, the Devils beat Misericordia, 3-0. On Sept. 25, they started the Susquehanna Tournament by splitting the first day, first with a 3-0 victory over Wilkes University and then losing 0-3 to St. Mary’s College of Maryland. On the second day of the tournament, Sept. 26, they lost both games, first losing 1-3 to Susquehanna University then losing 0-3 to Franklin and Marshall.

Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team won their first match of the season, on Sept. 14, over Rutgers-Newark, 5-4. On Sept. 16, they lost to Ramapo College, 0-9, and then lost to Misericordia University on Sept. 19 by a score of 0-9. On Sept. 21, the Devils lost 1-8 to DeSales University and also lost 1-8 to Manhattanville College on Sept. 24. The Devils defeated the College of Staten Island, 8-1, on Sept. 26.

Football
On Sept. 18, the Devils dropped their second game, 58-28, to The College of New Jersey. On Sept. 26, the Devils won their first game, 49-30, over Newport News Apprentice School. The Devils battled in the Homecoming game for their first victory, constantly trading scores until they took the game over in the fourth quarter. Newport News scored on the first possession of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 35-30, but that was as close as they would get as the Devils finished the game off with two more touchdowns. Junior running back Bayshawn Wells finished with 113 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown along with three receptions for 45 yards. Junior wide receiver Andrew Scamporino had three receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Devils to victory. The Devils begin conference play in their next game on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at home against Widener University.

Fall sports round-up for Devils


Men’s Soccer
On Sept. 2 the Devils lost their season opener 0-3 to Vassar College. They opened the Ramapo Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Berkeley College on Sept. 5 and followed it up the next day with a 5-0 win over Lehman. On Sept. 9 they lost to Ramapo 1-2. Sept. 12 they began the New Jersey City College Tournament with a 4-1 victory over City Tech. They went on to defeat the College of Staten Island 6-0 on Sept. 13, improving their record to 4-2.

Women’s Soccer
The Devils opened the season on Sept. 1 with a 1-2 loss to Stockton. They then started the Centenary Tournament on Sept. 5 with a 0-3 loss to Centenary and followed that with a 2-3 loss to Lebanon Valley on Sept. 6. The Devils got their first victory of the season on Sept. 9 with a 2-1 win over Rutgers-Newark. On Sept. 12 they played William Paterson to a 1-1 double overtime tie, giving them a 1-3-1 record.

Field Hockey
The field hockey team started their season with a 4-1 win over SUNY Oneonta on Sept 2. On Sept. 5 they defeated the College of Notre Dame of Maryland 4-0 to begin the Stevenson Tournament. On Sept. 6 they lost the next game to Stevenson 1-3. The Devils then lost 1-5 to Kean on Sept. 9 and on Sept. 12 they lost 0-3 to St. Joseph’s, bringing their record to 2-3.

Cross Country
On Sept. 5 the Devils started their season at the Delaware Valley Invitational. The men’s team finished 15th out of 17 teams while the women’s team finished 12th out of 15 teams. During the Baruch Invitational the men’s team finished sixth out of 13 teams and the women finished fifth out of 12 teams.

Volleyball
The Devils split their opening season matches on Sept. 2 for the first day of the Buttermaker Tournament. They lost the first match 2-3 to Stevens Institute of Technology and won the second match 3-1 against Hunter. On Sept. 4 the Devils won both their matches with a 3-1 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology and a 3-0 win over Simmons. They split their matches on the second day of the Emerson/Wentworth Tournament on Sept. 5 with a 0-3 loss to Emerson and a 3-0 victory over Salve Regina. On Sept. 9 they defeated the University of Scranton 3-0. They split the opening of the Muhlenberg Tournament on Sept. 11 by winning the first match 3-0 over Muhlenberg and dropping the second match 0-3 to York College of Pennsylvania. On Sept. 12 they also split their matches first by defeating Neumann College 3-1 and then losing 0-3 to DeSales, giving them an overall record of 7-4.

Women’s Tennis
The Devils lost their season opener 0-9 to Stockton College.

Football
On Sept. 12 the Devils lost their season opener against Alfred on a touchdown pass with 27 seconds left in the game to give Alfred the 33-28 victory. The Devils fought back from a 21-7 halftime deficit to take a 22-21 lead with 1:40 left to play in the third quarter. After two more touchdowns from each side, Alfred began their game winning drive with 2:32 left in the game. Despite the loss the Devils senior quarterback, Bill Winters, was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Notes from Last Season
Both men’s lacrosse and golf teams finished the season with great success after the last Metro issue was published. The golf team won the Freedom Conference championship for the fourth season in a row, and made their third NCAA tournament appearance. Greg Stockley was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year for the second time. In men’s lacrosse, the Devils won the MAC tournament by defeating Widener, 8-7, in the finals. They ultimately lost in overtime in the first game of the NCAA tournament to Washington and Lee. The Devils had seven players selected to the first team all-conference, including goalkeeper Alex Kajencki, who was named conference Player of the Year. Head Coach Pat Scarpello was named the MAC Coach of the Year.

Spring sports round-up


Men’s Lacrosse
On April 18, the Devils earned the No. 1 standing in the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference tournament, with a 13-5 win over King’s. Previously, the Devils beat Alvernia, Widener and Messiah.
On April 13, two Devils players, Kevin Shadiack and Alex Kajencki, were named MAC players of the week.

Baseball
The Devils lost a double-header to Wilkes on April 19, 6-5 and 16-5.
On April 18, the FDU team defeated Misericordia with a score of 18-9. Previously, they beat Western Connecticut and Manhattanville. But they were defeated by DeSales on April 8.

Women’s Lacrosse
The College of Florham Devils beat King’s, 18-2, on April 20. Two days earlier, the Devils defeated Arcadia with a score of 20-5. In that game, Amanda Wayne scored her 300th career point, Laura Gambardello scored her 200th career point and Erin Reilly scored her 100th career goal.
Previously, the Devils beat Misericordia and tied a game against Rowan.

Softball
The Devils lost a double-header to DeSales on April 19. The day before, the team split a double-header with Alvernia.
Previously, the Devils lost to Delaware Valley and Manhattanville, and split a double-header against Misericordia.

Men’s Tennis
On April 18, the Devils lost to Eastern, 7-2.
The team achieved its first conference win of the season against DeSales on April 14; the score was 8-1.
In earlier action, the Devils lost to King’s, 6-3.

Golf
The Devils defeated Delaware Valley, 312-324, on April 14. The day before, the team beat Stevens, 319-344.
At the Elizabethtown Invitational on April 9, the Devils finished eighth out of 19 teams. Prior to that, they beat Scranton and Wilkes.
